چکیده
Introduction Reduction of a radial head subluxation is a gratifying procedure for both clinicians and parents. With a simple maneuver, a child can be restored to full function in minutes, without the need for costly or time-consuming studies. Radial head subluxation also is referred to as nursemaid’s elbow, pulled elbow, or annular ligament displacement. Clinicians working in the office, urgent care center, or emergency department should be familiar with this common diagnosis. Epidemiology Radial head subluxation has been identified as the most common orthopedic injury among children younger than 6 years of age. It has been described in infants as young as 2 months of age, but has a peak incidence among toddlers, with a mean age of 27 months. Girls are affected more often than boys, and the left arm is involved more often than the right, likely due to most parents being right-handed.

متن کاملComplete biceps tendon rupture resulting in radial head subluxation.
The authors report this case of a 48-year-old male patient sustaining a complete tear of the biceps tendon and associated radial head subluxation. A restriction of supination-pronation of the forearm was noted as a result of the radial head subluxation. The complete tear of the biceps tendon was treated conservatively and the radial head subluxation corrected itself.
متن کاملReduction of radial-head subluxation in children by triage nurses in the emergency department: a cluster-randomized controlled trial.
BACKGROUND Radial-head subluxation is an easily identified and treated injury. We investigated whether triage nurses in the emergency department can safely reduce radial-head subluxation at rates that are not substantially lower than those of emergency department physicians. METHODS We performed an open, noninferiority, cluster-randomized control trial. Children aged 6 years and younger who p...
متن کاملThe role of sonography in detecting radial head subluxation in a child.
Injuries around the elbow joint in children can be difficult to diagnose on the basis of findings on physical examination and radiographs. We present the case of a 4-year-old girl with a probable subluxation of the radial head, based on the findings on physical examination and radiographs. Radiography raised the possibility of a radial head subluxation. Sonography demonstrated displacement of t...
